Helping Haiti

Boys and girls at West Field know how natural disasters, such as tornadoes, can disrupt our lives.  So when they learned how the people of Haiti were affected by an earthquake, they opened their hearts and minds to find ways to make a difference.

Want to help?  YOU CAN! On April 10, there will be a Garage Sale/Bake Sale here at West Field Elementary School.  Any donations for the sale can be brought all this week from 3:30 to 6:00 pm to the western doors by the cafeteria.  Come find a sweet deal, or just something sweet to eat, and help us help the citizens of Haiti even more!

Thanks to all the community support, our first Haiti fund-raiser was a big success!  With the help of a Watch D.O.G. volunteer, Cameron, a student from our Safe and Fit School Committee, bravely demonstrated how effective Water Straws are for cleaning out dirt and other pollutants.  West Field students and families have already collected nearly $700 to purchase Water Straws for victims in Haiti to have safe drinking water.

A few words from

Mrs. Jernigan . . .

Welcome to West Field!  We've had a successful start to the 2010-11 school year.  Thank you for sharing your child with us!  Thank you for your patience as we are working through the kinks with our new procedures for parent pick-up.  Remember, your child's safety is our number one priority.  We take more time at the beginning so that we are all following procedures precisely and all students are safe.  A couple of things that will help our process to move more quickly are:  1) always be cautious, moving as far forward as possible and watching the adults who are directing traffic; 2) remain in your car and always have your child load from the right side of the car; 3) wait to buckle your child as you get out of the loading zone, but prior to entering Penn Ave; 4) the more parents that will utilize parent pick-up or the free bus transportation, the more quickly we can move the line and not have to send students across the traffic in the crosswalk.

West Field - Great Expectations Model School 2009-2010

West Field students and teachers were recognized by Great Expecations Mentor, Betty Flurry at Round-Up on Friday.  This is the third year for West Field to achieve GE Model School status.  There are only 55 schools in the nation with this recognition!  We are proud of our students and teachers!  West Field teachers are dedicated to helping students be the BEST and reach their highest potential.  We set high expectations for ourselves and our students and we strive to help every child meet those goals.

West Field also had the opportunity to recognize a very special person during Round-Up.  Taylor Roberts, was introduced to the students and faculty.  Before West Field was built, there was a contest to name our school.  Taylor asked her grandfather, what used to be in the field where the school was to be built.  He told her it used to be the West Edmond Field and was an oil field.  She then shortened that to West Field and submitted her idea.  Thank you, Taylor for naming our school!  West Field - Where Everyone Succeeds Together!!

Keeping our Kids Safe During Spring Weather!

Many of you may remember last spring, when students and faculty of West Field Elementary were required to spend long periods of time in our Tornado Safe Rooms due to dangerous storms.  After this event, we realized how thankful we were to have donations of cases of bottled water and individually wrapped snacks to keep us hydrated and our tummies full.

Would you please help us replenish these critical supplies?  Spring weather is upon us once again, and we need your help ASAP to keep our kids safe and comfortable.  Any items remaining at the end of the year will be used for Field Day.  Thank you!
