Tiger Pride is the program that will help us teach the students responsibility, reward those students on the path to success and give better directions to the students who are beginning to stray away from us.

Tiger Pride is a bi-weekly tutoring program and reward that will take place the last 45 minutes of the student’s core classes.  Students with a grade of 69 or below in a subject will go to a review class for that particular subject (if a student has more than 1 ‘D’, they will go to the highest class) and the students who have all A’s, B’s & C’s will attend a Tiger Pride meeting in the cafeteria, courtyard or blacktop.

Tiger Pride will last be for 28 weeks of the school year.  The first 2 weeks of each semester will be for grade building, and there will be no Tiger Pride the week of Fall Break and CRT testing.  It will end the week on May 11 because the last two weeks of school are CRAZY!

All students will have a Tiger Pride card with them.  When they report to Tiger Pride the teachers will punch a letter.  When students reach Tiger  and then later Pride (all 5 punches) they will be invited to Tiger Pride reward day.  Reward day can be anything from a lunch, movie and popcorn, a field trip to the bowling alley, ice skating, or a day at the park.

After a student reaches Tiger Pride they will be given a new card to start over for a second reward.  The first reward will be the 16th week of school since Tiger Pride will not start until the 4th week of school and it will take a minimum of 10 weeks to get a Tiger Pride.  Rewards will then be offered every 4 weeks for those who have reached Tiger Pride.  This allows all students the opportunity to succeed at their pace.  This program will not start over at the beginning of the second semester, but will continue cumulatively.

Once a student has reached Tiger Pride, their cards will be posted on Tiger Pride boards around the school.

Responsibility is taught by the Tiger Pride card.  Students are responsible for keeping their cards to show on Tiger Pride day.  If a student loses their card, we will be happy to give them a new card.  However, students CANNOT combine cards if/when they find their old card.  They now have two cards and may punch one or the other.

On Tiger Pride day, students will be getting a printed summary from each of their core teachers, and take them home to be signed by their parents and returned Monday to their 3rd hour teacher.  They are accepted only on Monday.  After they have returned 5 reports, they can be given a homework pass for good any core subject.  It is non-transferable.  This will show constant contact with the parents.  Students will take their stapled summaries to their Tiger Pride room and verify they are in the correct room.

Tutoring Rooms

At Central we have worked very hard to align curriculum.   This has resulted in same teachers of the same grade all working on the same concept at the same time.  What a perfect set up for tutoring!

For example, students with a D or below in math will report to the math tutoring room.  The teacher will review the concepts that were taught during the past week, clarifying and answering all questions.  They will then do guided practice with the students.  This tutoring session is NOT a time to complete homework or missing assignments.  It is a session to give the students that much needed boost to grasp the current concepts.

The goal of the tutoring room is to help those students who don’t need a full week of TOPS (thus keeping up necessary attendance in elective).  There will be one room for each core subject (science, English, math, Reading/Writing Workshop, history and Spanish).  This room will not change, but the teachers will rotate weekly.  Those teachers not tutoring will be in the Tiger Pride room (8th grade schedule attached)

Tiger Pride Room

Students reporting to Tiger Pride will have the opportunity to visit with their friends, to participate in team building activities or to play an organized game.  This is our time to let the students know we enjoy their educational success and that Tiger Pride is the path to success.
