Group 6: Changing World

"They will try to change you from your way of living to theirs....."
Sweet Medicine

The Cheyenne, like all native American tribes, endured great hardships when the Europeans "discovered" America.  They had been forced to leave their lands many times, finally becoming a nomadic people.  And in the 1800's, the U.S. government decided that the fighting among the Indian groups and between the settlers and the Indians must stop.  Many Americans from the East wanted to travel out west to the plains, to build farms or ranches, or travel to California to mine gold.  To establish peace in the Plains, U.S. officials organized one of the biggest treaty councils ever.  The main goal of this council was to establish specific boundaries for Indian territories.  But these boundaries did not create peace.  There were too many whites moving west and they brought with them diseases and problems.  Violence erupted and the army decided a full scale assault on the Cheyenne was in order.  Several famous battles followed.

TASK:  Your task is to gather information about the Cheyenne's battles listed below.  From the information you gather from your book,  you will create a presentation with the following slides.  Use the same titles as are listed on the slides.
