I know that everyone is excited about summer time! I know I am! There are so many great books to read and so little time. To encourage you to read this summer, I am inviting you to participate in the 2013 SUMMER READING EXTRAVAGANZA!

For each book you read, you must do one of the activities listed below.  After you complete the activity, email it to me at julie.richards@edmondschools.net.  You can email it to me as an attachment or as a link. 

 READING REQUIREMENTS:   

• The book must be on your grade level (no kiddie stuff). 
• It needs to be at least 100 pages.
• It needs to be a book you've never read!

• Make a Book Trailer:  Create a video using Windows Movie Maker, iMovie or Photo Story 3*.  This video should be like a movie trailer.  It should be interesting and make the person watching the video want to read the book!  * If you do not have Photo Story 3, it is a FREE download at Microsoft.com  The link is below.  http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/search.aspx?q=Photo%20story%203
  • Instructions:
    • Upload pictures that go with your book (you should have at least 6 pictures)
    • The first picture should be the cover of the book you read.
    • Create a book trailer explaining what the book is about.  You can tell it from the main character's point of view or your own.
    • Each picture should not have more than 2 sentences!
    • Don't give the book away!
    • Add music.
    • Complete the book trailer, and email it as an attachment to me.
  • Go to YouTube to find some examples of book trailers so you can come up with some ideas.

• Create a Glogster:  A glog is basically an online poster.  It's very fun to make, and it doesn't take very long.  Sign up at http://edu.glogster.com/
  • What you need on your Glog:
    • A photo of the book, the title, and the author.
    • You must have a picture of the author, a short biography of the author, and a link to the author's website.
    • A description of the main characters with at least one picture.
    • A description of the setting with a link to a website that further describes the setting.  You can find the website on Google or through another search engine.  If it's a fantasy world, you can find a picture that represents it.
    • A description of the conflict.
    • Your review of the book.  Did you like it? Hate it? Would you recommend it?
    • When you are finished, email me the link to your Glog.

• Make a Movie Poster:  You can create a movie poster based on the book.   You can take a picture of it and email it to me, or you can wait until school starts and turn it in to me then.
  • Requirements:
    • The poster must have the title of the book and the author
    • List and briefly describe the main characters
    • Explain the conflict and setting in a creative way
    • Be created by hand
    • The poster must be in color 

• Complete a Book Report Form:  If the things listed above don't sound fun to you, complete a book report form.  You must fill out ALL of the blanks.  The paragraph boxes must have AT LEAST 5 SENTENCES in each box!  Click here for the Book Report Form.
