Lysol Wipes and Hand Sanitizer Needed
|
 |
|
Hello !
I am wondering if possible if you could send some Lysol wipes and Hand Sanitizer to Science Class :) We are trying to wipe down the stations after each class period to keep everyone healthy.
Our next unit will be physics. We are currently collecting materials to make this unit as fun as possible. The following items are much needed. If you can donate please let us know. We would like students to start collecting over Fall Break and the week week following:
Water bottles with lid, wood ramps, windable toy cars and windable toys, marbles, old barbie dolls, match box cars, rulers, styrofoam meat trays, cardboard(for building cars), balloons, and straws. They can start bringing these items if they would like in bags after break. We also can use items to decorate balloon cars like construction paper, glitter, stickers etc.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP THIS YEAR ! Mrs. Antkowiak
Have a safe, fun and healthy Fall Break
Thank you to all the parents/guardians who have brought wipes to class !!! We are using them daily to keep our students healthy and our lab clean :)

Changes in Class Schedule
|
 |
|
Extra copies of TOC are in class on supply table and on our website under documents.
Zeros are Not Permitted- Students will be ZAPPED if they do not turn in their work in class. Students will be expected to come in after school to do "ASA" After School Advantage if they are ZAPPED. ASA is after school from 2:30-4:00 Tues-Thursday. Transportation is provided by the school to get your child home. Phone calls will be made by 8th grade teachers to have your child stay if he/she has not turned in an assignment for a class. Tests, Learning Checks and Quizzes will be given with that child's teacher.

Weekly Class Reminders
|
 |
|
Be sure to make up labs and assignments as soon as you are gone. You may come in during lunch with an appointment and directly after school on Thursday(quizzes, tests, learning checks and open notebook checks-during ASA) and Fridays (for lab make up). If you want to make up work during ASA on Tuesday and Wednesday I will need to know ahead of time.
Chemistry books can not be taken from the room- so use your time to get the work done in class:) If you need more time with these resources you are more than welcome to come in during lunch or after school...just let me know.

Hello. My name is Penny Antkowiak and I will be your science teacher this year! I am so excited to be working with you! I graduated from Putnam City High School in 1992. I attended UCO and earned a Bachelors Degree in Biology Education in 1997. After college I worked at Deer Creek High School teaching Biology, Pre-AP Biology, AP Biology and Physical Science. During my time at Deer Creek I went back to college at UCO and earned my Masters in Education with an emphasis in Science/Biology. I spent nine years at Deer Creek High School. I then worked at Putnam City North teaching Biology and Zoology. This is my 2nd year at Cheyenne Middle School.
I have always loved science and look forward to sharing my experiences with you. I hope my knowledge and training can help you develop the same love for science that I have experienced. I remember many experiences while I was your age that influenced me greatly. I spent one summer at the Smithsonian and I will never forget how much fun it was. I attended many summer camps which helped me develop a love of nature and animals which later encouraged me to study biology and zoology. The memories and experiences you have at this age will influence you for the rest of your life.
My goal this year is to show you how much fun science can be. I want you to be a critical thinker, learn to solve problems and identify ways to make your life better through science. Hopefully you will walk away from my class with a love of science and a curiosity about the world around you.
I am looking forward to a great year with you and your family !
I am so blessed to be part of the Cheyenne family !

Have your notebook daily ! Always bring scissors and paste/glue to class for your labs. Always put your page/dates into your TOC and on each entry. Use titles for new entries.
If you would like a regrade on your notebook- print off this sheet and paste it into your notebook. REGRADE SHEET. Then fill it out and have your parents sign and date it.
Organization of Notebook
1st 6 pages of notebook TOC-table of contents
Index/Front of Notebook- Includes in order: Class contract, Safety contract, Microscope, Equipment Page, Periodic Table, Presentation Quality Graph, ABC's of Graphing, SI units, Three Kinds of Variables
Back of Notebook Should contain: Section for Grade Reports, Learning Checks, Benchmarks, Glossary of High Frequency Words, OCCT Review, Page for Useful Formulas.
Back of your Notebook: In this order
1. Grade Reports (6) leave 6 pages for this- parents will sign and you will put your grade reports in here.Grade Report Section
2. Learning Checks (6) Leave 6 pages for this- this is where you will staple your LCs in, fix and correct mistakes.Learning Check in page of notebook save 6 pages for this
3. Glossary- This is where you will use high frequency words. You will include a page number to find these words in your ISN.Glossary example ,Glossary Exampl p. 2
4. Benchmark Section- (4) pages devoted only to benchmark cards/analysis and information Benchmark Set Up
5. Practice Test OCCT- this is where you will put your practice test score and analysis OCCT Practice Test Page
6. Important Formulas- (1) this is where you will put all your important formulas for physics

Lab Make Up Reminders
|
 |
|

Lab Make Up Policy
If you are absent and miss lab you are expected to make up that lab after school with in a reasonable amount of time. Lab make up dates will be scheduled and announced weekly. Labs can not be kept out for more than 5 school days. Some of the chemistry labs we are doing are available on line and you can actually watch a video about the experiment.
Students who do not make up labs will miss out on content and science process skills. This means that you most likely not be able to understand the concepts covered on learning checks and unit tests.
You may get information from your lab group but this is not an effective way of learning science. If you do not have a science lab present in your journal or an entry is missing you will loose points on your ISN check. You may also watch some of our labs online on the FOSS website for the chemistry only. This is a way to see what you missed but is not a substitute for doing the lab.

Many labs are too long to finish during lunch and are not safe to eat around while investigating. Therefore- science labs will be done after school in chemistry unit to provide you a safe learning environment. Lab Dates will be announced.
These labs and our class resources can be found on FOSS science kits. You will need the teacher password to enter the teacher resources. You may get the password verbally from your teacher and write it down.
