ACCELERATED READER PROGRAM
What is AR?
Accelerated
Reader, or AR, is designed to supplement
our district reading program. It is a
computerized program through which students read books and take accompanying
tests to improve their comprehension.
Students accumulate points based on their test scores. They earn various classroom rewards for these
points.
How do students know if a book
is part of the AR program?
A
colored dot on the spine of a library book indicates that it is a part of the
AR program. The color used to label a
book indicates the books grade level.
Colors are as follows:
Red: 1.0 - 1.9
Yellow: 2.0 - 2.4
Blue: 2.5 - 2.9
White: 3.0 - 3.4
Green: 3.5 - 3.9
Black: 4.0 & up
How can parents help with the AR
program?
You can
read AR books with your children at home and discuss the story with them,
including elements such as character, setting, and plot.
Just what are those AR rewards
the students can earn?

Please remember to practice math facts (addition and subtraction to 18)
at home;
we practice at school every day,
but a little extra reinforcement never hurt anyone!
Accuracy and quick recall are
