Letter to Parents and Students

ZAP

To help ensure that students are completing assignments in a timely manner, Cimarron will be starting the Zeros Aren’t Permitted (ZAP) program March 1. District tranportation will be provided. ZAP will be offered on Tuesday and Thursday each week from 2:30-4:30. Students who do not have their assignments/homework for the day will immediately make a phone call to their parent/guardian notifying them of the missing assignment and his/her need to attend ZAP. If the student does not turn in the assignment before the assigned ZAP day, they will attend the after-school program. Parents will be notified prior to students being assigned ZAP. Students will not be allowed to attend without parent notification. Students will not be released from ZAP prior to 4:30. This program will help ensure student completion of assignments and help better communicate student progress.

Missing work prior to March 1, does not fall under the ZAP guidelines.

If you have questions about our ZAP program, please contact us at 340-2935.

Respectfully,

Andy North

Principal

 Letter to the Parents Minimize

Dear Parent:

On the reverse side of this letter is a copy of our school’s 2008 Oklahoma district Accountability Data Report.  This report is to provide you with information of how our school is doing in meeting the requirements of the federal law, No Child Left Behind (NCLB).  We are proud of the accomplishments of our students and applaud our staff for their dedicated efforts that support student learning.

Our schools’ Academic Performance Index for regular education students is 1427.  Scores are also provided for subgroups that include English Language Learners (ELL) and for students who are served by an Individual Education Plan (IEP).  Below these headings are the scores of all student subgroups as required by the federal legislation.

The state performance target for mathematics is 932.  The state performance target for reading is 914.  As you review the scores for the various subgroups of our school, you will note that our scores exceed the state targets in all areas.  API scores are rated on a scale of 1-1500.

We are very pleased that Cimarron made “Adequate Yearly” progress as defined by NCLB.  However, to use the term “adequate” does not properly describe the progress of our students.  Cimarron increased its scores from 1404 to 1427.  This is remarkable as “cut scores” were raised this year.  We will continue to work diligently to implement the Provisions of NCLB and to realize our mission of ensuring that each and every child is academically successful.

Additional information regarding No Child Left Behind and the performance of students in the Edmond Public Schools will be available on the District’s website that can be accessed at www.edmondschools.net. If you have questions regarding the accountability report, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Andy North
