Educational Background

I attended Rose State College before I graduated from high school and continued there after high school for a few years.  I worked full time most of my early college years.

I then attended the University of Oklahoma where I became one of the biggest SOONER fans ever.  I was there when we won the 1985 National Championship.  I never missed a home game.

I also had the unique opportunity to attend Purdue University Pharmacy School.  Although I did not complete the program, I discovered that my heart is in teaching.

Teaching Experience

I have been in education since 1988.  I substituted in every classroom pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. I did my student teaching at Monroe Elementary in Norman, OK.  My first job was in OKC and I taught 2nd grade for two years.  Then moved on to different schools and taught kindergarten, second, third, fifth and sixth grades.  This is my 20th year to teach.  After all those years, I finally found my dream job.  I love science and now I get to teach it all day long!

Why I teach

I truly love what I do.  I have tried to leave the teaching profession a few times along the way but I am always drawn back.  I want to make a difference in the lives of young people by providing a nurturing atmosphere where they feel safe to learn, make mistakes, and discover the world around them.  My goal is to guide them as they develop into successful, contributing adults. I plan on retiring some day and I want to leave our community in good hands.  The children are our future.

Things I Love to Do

Spend time with my family, watch OU football, decorate my house, play with my dog, Lucy (really my parents dog but she adopted me as her favorite person),  go to garage sales, Girl Scouting, flower gardening, and read by the pool in the summer.

I also love to travel and have been many places some of which include: Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, France, Italy, Mexico, and Iceland.  My most favorite places are right here in the USA any place by the ocean.

My Favorite Quotes

  •   “Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.”  –  Confucius
  • “They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.” –author unknown
  • “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” - William Ward

Favorite Music- I love all types of music but especially 80’s and classic rock. I lived in Nashville for 13 years and never listened to country music.  Now that I am back in Oklahoma, I am becoming a country music fan.
