I’m Ruthie Riggs, Principal of John Ross Elementary School. I am proud to be a lifelong educator of 29 years! My professional preparation includes academic work in the areas of child development, early childhood education, school counseling and school administration. But my most important preparation is that of raising three sons and becoming a grandmother. These experiences are a constant reminder that I am fortunate to interact with each parent’s most prized possession….their child!
My education philosophy can be summed up by my two favorite quotes: “Childhood is a journey…..not a race” and Bill Nye’s words, “To all who visit here, have a safe journey and the joy of discovery!” My goals as an educator are to celebrate childhood as a unique stage of life and help children discover a passion for learning. I want to work with the John Ross staff of dedicated professionals to educate the “whole child” which includes not only academics, but also the development of social skills and character. A well-rounded child is prepared to become a successful adult citizen.
I am excited to continue my own professional journey by joining the John Ross community! Our teaching staff includes 26 Master's degrees, 7 teachers who have achieved National Board Certification and several teachers who are currently working on graduate degrees and National Board Certification. We are happy to host student teachers and practicum students from several universities and enjoy this professional collaboration.
I am honored to be part of the Edmond Public Schools! Their commitment to excellence is obvious through their clearly defined mission, dedication to professional development and commitment to excellence in all areas of developing students and staff. We are truly in the “people growing” business!
Thank you for sharing your child with us!
