Howry's Bio

I  have always lived in the Oklahoma City area and currently live in Edmond. I am divorced and have one grown daughter with a college degree in ciminal justice.  I enjoy reading, writing, multi-media art, keeping art journals, and gardening.

After I graduated from Moore High School, I spent one semester at Southwestern State University in Weatherford. At the semester I transfered to Oklahoma State University, where I stayed for 1 1/2 years. OSU is where my heart is, and it is a family tradition to attend school there. GO POKES! I finished my schooling at Central State University, now known as University of Central Oklahoma, with a degree in secondary English eduation. I didn't go directly into teaching working at a law firm, as a journalist, and a director of public relations and communications. I finally needed a career that "mattered," so I went back to recertify and began my teaching career 21 years ago.

My first teaching job was at Mayfield Junior High in the Putnam City School District. I was there for two years when I transfered to Putnam City West High School where I taught for 11 years before coming to Edmond Public Schools eight years ago. Before leaving West I completed and earned my National Board Certification. I am also a teacher consultant with the OSU Writing Project. This year I am teaching English III, and I am the adviser for the school newspaper the Ruff Draft. I have taught English I - III, Beginning and Advanced Creative Writing, news reporting, and Advanced Composition.

I am excited about this school year and getting to know all my new students.
