 Teen Read Week, October 14-20, 2012!  This year's theme was "It came from the library!" and it celebrated all of the great mystery and horror books available for teen age readers.This event is sponsored nationally by the Young Adult Library Services Division of the American Library Association, Mrs. H. and the Media Center sponsored several contests and a contest drawing.  We had a lot of fun celebrating!

OKLAHOMA AUTHOR ANNA MYERS TO VISIT SEQUOYAH ON APRIL 9, 2013!

Amazing author Anna Myers will visit Sequoyah and speak to 6th graders in the Media Center on April 9th! She is the author of many award winning historical fiction and humorous fiction titles for middle school readers. Students in the RWW classes have been studying her novels and are looking forward to her visit. Anna will also autograph her books for students in the Media Center. You can pre-order her books from Mrs. Adler in Room 152 and we will also have some titles for sale the day of the visit in the Media Center.  Her books include: Assassin, Stolen by the Sea, Spy, Tulsa Burning, Red-dirt Jessie, Spotting the Leopard, Flying Blind, Hoggee, The Keeping Room, and many others.  Anna is known for her extensive research of and historical details that go into her novels. We are so lucky to have her visit!

 

 

 

 

AUTHOR NEAL SHUSTERMAN AT SEQUOYAH THURSDAY, OCTOBER 25TH!

AWESOME young adult author Neal Shusterman visited 4 Edmond middle schools and Memorial High School the week of October 21-26, 2012!  He spoke to approximately 5,000 students while he was in Edmond.  Neal is the author of many award-winnning books, including Downsiders, Full Tilt,The Schwa Was Here,The Eyes of Kid Midas,  Unwind, The Dark Side of Nowhere, Everlost and many more.

Neal spoke to three grade level assemblies in the Sequoyah gym, then did a writing workshop for 48 invited students. Students ordered copies of his books and he talked with many students at an autographing session in the Media Center. It was a great day and students really enjoyed his presentations. He last visited Sequoyah in 2004 and we are so excited he came back.

BOOK FAIR! 

October 29- Nov. 2, 2012  Book Fair!  Come to the annual Scholastic Book Fair, which is in the Media Center! We'll be open each day from 8:00-2:30 and there are lots of cool books, posters, pens, pencils, software, and many gift items for all ages available for purchase. We accept cash, checks, and credit cards. This is our major fundraiser for the Media Center and we SO appreciate your support. (For example, the profits from our last two book fairs is paying for our author visit this year. :) 

Update:   The Fair was a great success and we thank all of our parent volunteers and Mrs. Andrus for the great job they did! Parents, we appreciate your support too. :)

 

 

 

 

 

 


April 14-20, 2013   National Library Week!  

This year's theme for National Library Week is "Communities matter @ the library!"  Since this week is scheduled during our annual state testing, we will celebrate NLW at Sequoyah the week of April 8th-12th instead. We will have several contests and drawings where you can win prizes and books from the Media Center.  Also, awesome author Anna Myers is visiting and speaking to our 6th graders in the Media Center on April 9th!   (She'll autograph her books too).It will be a fun week.  See the contest flyers around school for more information.

May, 2012   Children's Book Week. Started in 1919,  Children's' Book Week celebrates books and reading. Did you know, many research studies show that children who read well are also better students?  Plus, reading is lots of fun and good for you! :)
