Stand tall by Joan Bauer. 7th grader Tree (nicknamed because he is 6'3") has several problems: coping with his parents' recent divorce and the fact that he has no athletic ability (like his brothers and dad). He finds out that his greatest strengths lie in helping his Granddad (a Vietnam vet) , and making friends with Sophie, a new girl at school. Like the other Bauer books, this one is also a  great read!

Other popular titles at the LMC: Twilight by Stephanie Meyer (and sequels New Moon and Eclipse)--the story of Bella and her vampire boyfriend, Edward-- just keep flying off the shelves. Red Kayak by Priscilla Cummings (2007 Sequoyah Young Adult Award book): Brady must decide what to do when he discovers that a prank his best friends have done has had tragic consequences.  The Sisterhood of the traveling pants by Ann Brashares--the story of 4 girls and their eventful summer(sequels include the Second Summer of the Sisterhood). Princess in Training by Meg Cabot (Princess Diaries, series) follows Princess Mia  as she starts 10th grade with the usual funny results. Fantasy author T.A. Barron has completed the Great Tree of Avalon series with The Eternal Flame (Merlin's grandson and his friends must stop the evil warlord Gawr from destroying Avalon).  Another laugh-out-loud book is The Frog Princess by E.D. Baker, which is the story of 14-year-old Princess Emeralda who reluctantly kisses the frog Eadric to help him become a prince again....but instead, becomes a frog too!  (Sequels are Dragon's Breath ,Once Upon a Curse, and No Place for Magic). Audrey Couloumbis' rip-roaring adventure, The Misadventures of Maude March, is an exciting  story about two sisters who become unlikely/accidental  outlaws in the Old West. The sequel, Maude March on the run--or trouble is her middle name is on the shelves now and is a big hit with fans. The sequel, Maud Rides On, is out now also! One of my all-time favorite books is Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamilloIndia Opal's move to a small Florida town is impacted greatly when she "adopts" an orphan dog that she names Winn Dixie. This is a funny and heart-warming story for all ages.

Don't forget to visit the Edmond Public Library too! Lots of great books there too!  You can check them out on the web by going to  www.metrolibrary.org.

Abduction!  by Peg Kehret is another good mystery from one of our favorite authors! 13-year-old Bonnie is the only one who can put the clues together to save her kidnapped little brother Matt. This is a fast-paced, suspenseful story.

The Runner  by Carl Deuker. 17-year-old Chance and his alcoholic Dad live on a broken down sailboat in Seattle's Puget Sound. When he's not in school, Chance is usually working as they are always one step away from being homeless and hungry. When Chance is offered a higher-paying job that he can do while he runs (his favorite thing) each day along the beach, he eagerly accepts but doesn't realize  how much this dangerous job will cost him . Another great read from Carl Deuker, whose previous books include Heart of a Champion and High Heat.
Book blurbs are provided by Mrs. H., Sequoyah staff members, and Sequoyah students. E-mail us about your favorite book!  We'll feature them in the future.
