Course Description:
PhotoJournalism is the course responsible for the Summit Yearbook and the Eighth Grade slide show. Students will use their writing, composing, and photography skills to create the Summit Middle School Yearbook.
Course objectives:
The students will:
1. Develop and apply basic journalism skills.
2. Demonstrate effective communication skills; oral and written.
3. Produce student publications.
4. Create and manipulate photography equipment and photographs.
5. Explore media career requirements.
6.Meet deadlines!
Course Requirements:
Students are expected to come to class prepared and ready to apply their best effort to the projects in progress and meet deadlines. Our deadlines are driven by contract with Jostens.
Instruction will be provided in a variety of methods so that the learning styles of each student will be enhanced.
Course Products:
Students will:
1.Investigate a variety of publication media used in modern communications.
2.Create at least one portion of each deadline.
3.Assist in layout activities for publications.
4.Practice correct oral and written communication skills.
Parent Notification:
Parents will be appraised of student progress in accordance with Edmond Schools policy as outlined in the Student/Parent Handbook.
Grades will be based on the grading scale:
A = 90 – 100%; B = 80 – 89%; C = 70 – 79%; D = 60 – 69%; F = Below 60%
Grades are compiled as 40% class work and 60% projects/tests.
Materials used in class include, but are not limited to:
Jostens YearTech (program online)
Microsoft PowerPoint
A variety of publication texts used for journalism and yearbook.
Classroom rules and expectations:
The 5 P’s (all are equally important in providing a positive and safe learning environment).
Polite – treat others with courtesy and respect.
Prepared – have all needed materials and meet due dates.
Productive – no one will interfere with the learning of others, including themselves.
Prompt – be on time.
Proud – quality work is expected at all times.
