 7th Grade Social Studies/Geography

(Eastern Hemisphere)

Welcome to my web page!  During this 2009-2010 school year, 7th grade students are taking a journey to “the other side of the world”, or the Eastern Hemisphere.  Continents and regions we are studying include Europe and Russia, Africa, all sections of Asia, Australia, and the Pacific Islands.  The Eastern Hemisphere is where history began, and where history continues to be made to this day.

In 1974, I graduated from Cameron University, Lawton, OK, with a B.A. degree, and was a four-year letterman on the football team.  In 1975, I received my M.A. degree from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Alva, OK.  My areas of certification are Social Studies, Art, Science, and Elementary Education.  My wife, Mimi, is a third grade teacher at Centennial Elementary in Edmond.  Mimi and I have five children.

I am also the 7th grade varsity boys basketball coach.  Our 2009-2010 team finished the season undefeated (17-0), winning the Metro Conference Championship and the Norman Whittier Tournament Championship.  Last year's 2008-09 team was also undefeated (20-0), winning the Metro Conference, Norman Whittier Tournament, and Sequoyah Tournament Championships.  The combined record of the last three 7th grade varsity boys basketball teams is 52-5, with a 39-game winning streak, and three Metro Conference crowns.

Please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail me if you have a question regarding Social Studies or boys basketball.  The 2009-2010 school year has been a great one!

Sincerely,

John Boone

An Old Rancher's Advice (part II)

Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.

Don't interfere with somethin' that ain't botherin' you none.

Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.

If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin'.

Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got.

The biggest trouble maker you'll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from the mirror every mornin'.

Good judgement comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgement.

Lettin' the cat out of the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin' it back in.

If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else's dog around.

Live a good life.  Then when you get older and think back, you'll enjoy it a second time.

Live simply.  Love generously.  Care deeply.  Speak kindly.  Leave the rest to God.

Notes & Comments

My webpage will be updated by late afternoon every Sunday.

EVERYDAY...students must have paper, pencils, textbook, and folder...they will keep all graded quizzes, tests, homework, etc. in their folders.  Folders will be checked at random for a grade.  I provide folders for everyone...some students prefer their own folders/binders, and that's OK.  Students can count on (1) homework being assigned almost always on Tuesdays--due on Wednesday, and (2) a D.O.G. quiz every Thursday.  Three to four D.O.G. questions will be posted the first three days of the week, with a quiz on the fourth day.
