Hello! My name is Megan Guynes, and I am in my second year of teaching special education at Summit. I am a product of Edmond Public Schools, and am honored to be teaching in such an extraordinary school district. I graduated from the University of Oklahoma, and still love watching the Sooners on game day. I currently live in Edmond with my husband, Jarad, and our dog, Ranger. We love going on walks, taking Ranger to the pond, going to movies, and cooking as little as possible.

All of my student's work on different activities and lessons in each period that reinforce thier strengths and help improve their areas of weakness. However, this is a general overview of my day.

Social Studies:

We have been covering a little of everything in social studies so far this year.  Our main focus has been reading and understanding maps, but we have also talked about US history, important people from the past, and early American explorers.  We will continue discussing these issues over the next couple of weeks.

Reading/writing workshop:

We practice knowing the date and using the calendar everyday in our class.

We also work on reading comprehension, reading fluency, using a variety of texts, handwriting, vocabulary, sentence structure, grammar, and the different writing styles on the 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade levels.

Science:

Science is going to be filled with interesting readings, hands-on experiments, and exciting films that correlate with our goals.  This week we will complete our lesson on Plants as Living Things with a test on Friday.  next week we will begin out unit on Animals.

Lunch is from 10:30-11:05

Plan time - 11:25-11:55AM

Math:

Everyday in math we review our skills in telling time and counting money and making change. Individually we work on adding, subtracting, multiplication, using a calculator, fractions, formulas, linear equations, using graphs, and many other math related topics.

English:

Every Monday we learn the week’s spelling words.  We practice these words throughout the week and have a test every Friday. We practice various comprehension skills such as: answering questions about the setting, character development, recalling information, and predicting what will happen next in the story. We also work on handwriting, vocabulary, sentence structure, grammar, parts of speech, and the different writing styles on the 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade levels.

Study Skills:

This is a time where students can practice daily living skills and job related skills.  It is also a time to get caught up for the day, and learn different study skills that will encourage academic success.
