“Memorization is a primary learning tool that builds confidence and develops language skills”

Great Expectations

  

          The POETRY CLUB membership will include students who choose to memorize poetry.  All students from the first grade through the fifth grade are encouraged to participate.

 

          To become a member of the POETRY CLUB the FIRST poem a student memorizes must be at least:

 

          1^st grade       60 words long

          2^nd grade      70 words long

          3^rd grade      80 words long

          4^th grade      90 words long

          5^th grade      100 words long

 

I must be able to read the poem as the student recites it.  That is, they will need to bring a copy of the poem that is being recited so I can follow along.

 

     Students will recite their poems to me, Mrs. Koester, in the Media Center on Thursdays, from 11:15 a.m. to 1:15p.m.

 

Subsequent poems need only to be a minimum of 40 words long.

 

Students will be recognized for their efforts in Wildcat Wakeup.  They will be able to earn pencils, stickers, and lunch with me, based on the number of poems they choose to memorize.
