The Edmond Public Schools Red Dirt Book Award, established in 2018, highlights recent books that our students truly enjoy. Each year, middle school media directors select 14–16 amazing titles across a variety of genres.

Students who read at least 3 books get the chance to vote for their favorite before the early April deadline, giving them a real voice in choosing the winner!

🏆 The 2026 Red Dirt Intermediate Book Award winner is The Last Dragon on Mars by Scott Reintgen!

This program is all about inspiring a love of reading, discovering new stories, and empowering students to share their opinions. ❤️📖 #ShineYourLight

👏✨ It’s Core Value Award Day! Please give it up for:

✴️ Dana Elkins, Executive Assistant - Elementary Education, was nominated for INTEGRITY. Dana consistently goes out of her way to make everyone’s job easier and is a joy to work with. She is on top of everything that comes her way. She brings such a warm, welcoming energy to the building, and she is hilarious!

✴️ Annawake Grubbs, Bright Beginnings Director, was nominated for HOPE. Annawake brings a steady sense of hope and direction to a field that can often feel overwhelming. She sets high expectations for safety and culture, creating an environment where staff take pride in their work and children receive strong foundational care. Through open communication and genuine empathy, she’s built a true sense of community where families feel connected and supported.

✴️ Mackenzie Coleman, Sequoyah Teacher, was nominated for BELONGING. Ms. Coleman's commitment to belonging is rooted in a genuine, palpable care that defines every interaction she has with her students. Mackenzie’s classroom culture is built on the foundation of radical inclusivity, where every child feels seen, valued, and safe to take risks. You can see the impact of her work in the way her students carry themselves. There is a visible sense of ease and belonging that stems directly from her steady, positive influence. She is a valued member of the SEQ staff and we are grateful we get to work with her each day!

✴️ Carla McClurkin, Kathleen Price and Johnnie Campbell, Print Shop, were nominated for INTEGRITY. These three make sure that the jobs that they work on are PERFECT! They spend extra time on their projects to make sure that what goes in, comes out to be something that they themselves are proud of. If there is even the slightest concern for the look of a project, they stop the process and reach out in hopes to help better the outcome. They take full responsibility if for some reason a job falls short on the expectations of our customers. They work together as a team and conquer all sorts of printing challenges. THEY ARE A GREAT TEAM TO WORK WITH!

What a great representation of the staff here at EPS! 🎉

❤️ Thank you to Bank of Oklahoma for being our Core Value Award Sponsor!

Our Angie Debo families proved today that you don’t need to be outside to show the Earth some love! 🌎 Thanks to the Oklahoma weather, the kindergarten Earth Day Picnic was moved inside, but everyone made the most of it, bringing some blankets to the cafeteria to share a meal. ❤️✨ #ShineYourLight

To adequately prepare to read Romeo and Juliet, IA English I Students at Santa Fe immersed themselves in the Elizabethan Era. 🐦‍⬛👑

In this creative project, students chose a topic, researched it, made a poster that includes five subtopics, created artwork and a handmade creative component! Then, they took turns presenting their topic to their peers. 👏 #ShineYourLight

What do polar bears, cacti and sharks have in common? They all could’ve survived at West Field today! 🐻‍❄️🌵🦈

1st graders stepped into five completely transformed classrooms (the arctic, the woodlands, the ocean, the rainforest and the desert) to explore how structure and function help living things survive, and how biomimicry lets us learn from those adaptations to solve problems. 🌎

This lesson was also a testament to the dedication our educators have to their students! This teacher team totally transformed their classrooms AND dressed the part! 👏

Our high school seniors are putting real-world skills to the test 💼

After working through all 14 Personal Financial Literacy competencies in their government course, students are stepping into Junior Achievement’s Finance Park, which is a hands-on simulation where they’re given a “life persona” and challenged to budget, spend and plan for their future.

From housing and transportation to credit and savings, every decision counts!

All of our high schools brought groups of students who had completed all 14 Personal Financial Literacy competencies and opted in. It is initiatives like these that are preparing our students for life after high school. 🙌💵 #ShineYourLight

Our 2025–26 Excellence in Leadership Award recipient is Catherine Johnston, Assistant Principal at Santa Fe! 👏

Each year, EPS and the EPS Foundation recognize an outstanding leader who makes a lasting impact across the district. We surprised Ms. Johnston while she was leading the Student Foundations Committee, just one of the many ways she supports students and staff at Santa Fe!

She will be formally recognized at the Celebration of Excellence and at Meet the Stars alongside all of our 2025–26 award winners. 🌟 #ShineYourLight
